How I Got Here

I’ve always prided myself on how much I could get done.
Engineering. Work. Side projects. Helping others. Saying yes.

And you know what happens when you do a lot?
You get asked to do even more.

Over time, I couldn’t keep up the way I used to. I became tired. Resentful. What once felt like pride turned into pressure. I realized I had spent years doing things — but missing out on things I actually wanted to do: art, music, travel, rest.

Inside my head, it felt cluttered and loud. Even when I was “being productive,” I couldn’t enjoy it — because a thousand unfinished thoughts were always shouting for attention.

Why Randori Life Exists

Martial arts had always been part of my life. I started HapKiDo at Iowa State University and eventually earned my black belt years later.

When I returned to training as an adult, something clicked. Even when life was busy, practice worked. I showed up. I felt better afterward. More energy. Less tension.

And one night, driving home from practice, I realized why.

In training, we don’t face twenty attackers at once. We start with breathing. Foundations. One partner at a time. We adapt. We work with the energy in front of us — not against it.

I wondered: What if I lived my life this way too?

I started experimenting.

I took the chaos in my head and put it down on paper. I clarified my values. I treated routines like breathing and stretching — necessary foundations, not failures. I looked at projects as sparring partners instead of threats.

Things weren’t suddenly perfect — but they were manageable. I had more energy. More clarity. More peace.

When I shared this approach with friends, it helped them too. They didn’t need more discipline. They needed a way to organize reality that worked with their brains.

That’s why Randori Life exists.

Why It's Safe to Start Here

I still struggle sometimes. I get distracted. Life throws unexpected punches.

What’s different now is how I respond.

I don’t believe in rigid systems or shame-based productivity. Martial arts taught me flexibility — adjusting direction without losing the goal.

You won’t be judged here. You won’t be told you’re broken or lazy. We work with what’s real, and we adapt as life changes.

If you’re willing to learn and experiment, I’m happy to work alongside you.

I’ve worked with stay-at-home parents, small business owners, retirees, and veterans — all trying to stay balanced while life keeps coming at them.

I’ve led both in-person and online sessions, combining real martial arts principles with everyday life challenges.

One of the most meaningful things I hear is this:
“I can tell when I’m doing Randori Life — and when I’m not.”

That’s how I know it works.

If any of this feels familiar, a free 30-minute Randori Life Clarity Session is a good place to start. We’ll organize what’s been weighing on you and identify one clear next step — no pressure, no judgment.
